Discussions and criticisms about Jamaat-e-Islami's politics have been around for a long time. This is the first time they are in the role of the main opposition party in parliament. No matter how aggressive the party's field workers are online; the leaders say they want to break away from traditional politics. They want to play a role in fulfilling the aspirations of the people.

Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer ATM Azharul Islam said, "We want to do constructive politics. In the previous politics, we had to oppose the opposition for the sake of opposition. Whether it was necessary to oppose or not; basically, to keep the ruling party busy. We want to come out of this trend of politics."

Jamaat spokesperson Advocate Ehsanul Mahmud Zubair said, "After 16-17 long years, a democratic government has come through elections. We are in the opposition party, and the major responsibility of the opposition party is to fulfill its duties in parliament, to play a role on behalf of the people, to play a role there, taking into account their advantages and disadvantages, pains and sufferings."

Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami staged a walkout on the very day the parliament session began. Opposition MPs walked out in protest of the president's speech. Leaders say they will cooperate if the government takes positive decisions for development. But the party will not compromise on the spirit of the July coup.

ATM Azharul Islam said, "If they (the ruling party) work rationally for the people of the country, they will definitely get our support. If they work against the people, stand against the July spirit, we will definitely protest against it. We will do it in parliament, we will do it outside parliament too."

Advocate Ehsanul Mahmud Zubair also spoke in almost the same tone. He said that if the government works against the people or public interest, his party will oppose it in parliament; it will play the role of a constructive and responsible opposition party. It will also

protest on the streets. They are now playing their role based on this principle.

Both these senior leaders have said that Jamaat has faith in parliamentary democracy and wants to play a role as a true opposition party.
