Will the 11-party alliance of Jamaat-NCP remain united in the local elections?
Will the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami remain intact in the local government elections? This is a question that is being asked in political circles. Meanwhile, Jamaat, NCP and other allies have kept their potential candidates active in the field.
Citizens are increasingly curious to know whether the unity formed on the basis of seat sharing will move forward as a new political alliance. Jamaat leaders are not ruling out the possibility, although they are not saying for sure.
The party's Naib Ameer ATM Azharul Islam said, "We are still united in what I said about electoral unity. If necessary, we can sit down and form an 11-party alliance, leaving aside electoral unity. Only time will tell."
Jamaat spokesperson Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair said, "Although ours is not the conventional or traditional type of political alliance, it is very much like an alliance. Now we are united. We are sitting, discussing, and exchanging views in the National Assembly or outside the parliament."
They are talking about maintaining this unwavering unity within the parliament to confront the government on the ground if necessary. In that case, what can happen with the local government elections? Especially in the city corporation, potential candidates of Jamaat and NCP are active separately. The leaders' response is that the matter has not been finalized yet.
Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair said, "We have decided after discussing with 11 parties that all issues will not be taken in a positive perspective and if such partisanship continues, we will be forced to come to the streets. Then this movement can be of an alliance, so we are working in the current situation."
ATM Azharul Islam said, "If it goes against the spirit of the struggle that took place in the July 24th movement, we will definitely go to Parliament and, if necessary, the streets to force them to accept this demand."
It is learned that, taking into account the success of the parliamentary elections, 11 parties may participate in the local government elections on the basis of an alliance. However, the issue of electing mayors or chairman through party symbols or direct political nominations in the future has not yet been finalized.
